Campiglia Marittima
The electrical substation of Campiglia Marittima has a unique structure in the Italian railway panorama.
It has an all-white semi-spherical shape with access doors at opposite ends. It consists of the structure for the technical equipment, the external transformer, the high voltage support towers and internal tracks for the overhead line maintenance equipment.
Work of the model maker Giampiero Botrini.

The external transformer was made with cardboard glued in various layers to form the cooling fins, the insulators of the electrical conduits are simple boils of various sizes.
The dome of the electrical substation is made by inflating a balloon and on it, glued with vinavil, several layers of newspapers, cut out the doors and portholes once the whole has dried.
The high-tension pylon that feeds the electrical sub station was made of brass with the photoengraving system.

The rail crossing of Cadanelle, which we see in the 2nd photo, passes next to the electrical substation, connects the old Aurelia to the via della Pincipessa which leads to the sea: Porticciolo di Baratti.

Caldanelle

Le Caldanelle is a large freight wagon yard, mostly arriving and departing for Piombino. It is located next to the electrical substation, facing north. For railway modeling needs, we putted it at the end of the San Vincenzo station.
We have reproduced this as a repository and showcase for our models. It consists of 5 repository tracks and 2 protected transit tracks with relative light signals.
The model was built by Gianluca Mariotti

A control panel, synoptic simulator, allows us to form convoys.
